I’ve always liked flying big kites that pull you around mercilessly. By attaching wheels to your feet, you can ride the wind as if it was a racehorse. I invented a new kind of board when I was a teenager. By splitting the deck in half, each flexible section connected to the axles in a way that made the board steer when the rider lent forward or back and flexed one section more than the other. I wanted to convince a potential manufacturer of the benefits of my design so they’d give me some money. I put a hell of a lot of work into a project that didn’t end up going anywhere. However by learning to use fibreglass to make the flexible parts of the deck, it inspired me to try infusing denim with resin. That’s the main material that my unique sunglasses are made from.
