New oyster series! I’ll be reviewing oysters in restaurants, starting with London but who knows perhaps we’ll go international. We begin with Jason Atherton’s new restaurant, Three Darlings in Chelsea. These are rock oysters three different ways - the first is naked, so I douse it in the vinegar mignonette as the sour kick of the vinegar complements the briny creaminess of the oyster. The second oyster is dressed with caviar and coriander, the fishiness of the caviar complements the sweetness of the oyster and the coriander rounds it out with a grassy citrus note The third and final oyster is swimming in jalapeno and cucumber juice and topped with pickled green apple. There’s an interesting mix of spice and crispness from the liquid and their pickled apple adds a refreshing tangy note and some texture. Each oyster costs £5 and I will give this a 9/10 as does my mother who shockingly said that even SHE could eat 70 of them!! I am German and it is my duty to review all the German restaurants in London. Today I’m visiting German gymnasium (with my German mother) to review their Christmas goose. You can order the goose (which comes with red cabbage, a bread dumpling, and green cabbage) for £39, or for £10 more you can have a three course meal of potato soup, goose and Apfelstrudel. A 3 course German meal for under £50!! Das mögen wir. GG is located in Kings Cross and the festive goose will be running throughout the festive season. We put real candles on our Christmas tree and this is how we do it without burning the house down 1. Put candles on branches where there’s nothing above them 2. Special candle holders that clip to the tree and keep the candle stable 3. Keep the candles away from curtains or anything flammable 4. Only bring the tree in on the 23rd so it’s fresh and not going to go up in flames. We only light the tree for 5 days and spray it every day to keep it damp 5. Always have someone in the room when the tree is lit 6. Don’t let unpredictable pets near the tree this isn’t me telling you to do it, btw. My family has done this for years and have generations of practise… pls don’t try this at home, burn your house down and pin the blame on this video haha #christmas #weihnachten #weihnachtsbaum #christmastree

An emo retrospective exhibition at the @Barbican Centre - it’s free but only on until 15th January 2025. The exhibition is called I’m not OK (great MCR nod there!!) and it’s a collection of personal memorabilia from the 2007 wave of emo, ranging from bedroom selfies to ticket stubs, MySpace posts, band merch like t shirts and hoodies, personal photos. Lots of the content for this exhibition has been digitally unearthed by the Museum of Youth Culture from old hard drives and Photobucket accounts as well as submitted by emos themselves. The exhibition is so nostalgic and brings back so many memories of being a 12 year old on the internet. It you back to when we had iPod classics, Motorola razor flip phones where you could only store 50 text messages before the memory was full, when kerning and NME were a the height of their success and interviewing My Chemical Romance, who were my first real obsession, I can guarantee I have seen every single interview they’ve done, so it was also cool to see a few of their original annotated set lists too. The exhibition feel like a love letter to the emo subculture and really captures the community spirit that was an inherent part of it all. It takes about 30 mins to zip through, it’s free and you can find it in the Barbican library on the second floor. But! It’s only on until 15th Jan so hurry! No need to book tickets. #emo #London #londonlife #thingstodoinlondon #barbican #londonart #londonmusic #londonculture

Here is my guide as to what to eat and drink at a German (/north Hessen) Christmas market. Disclaimer: I’m sharing this reel because I want to continue sharing the joy that Christmas markets bring to so many at this time of year. The victims of the abhorrent attack in Magdeburg are in my thoughts daily, and I shall not allow the actions of one hate-filled man overshadow the beauty of these markets; joy, love and community must never be overwhelmed by hatred, anger and divisive actions. I also wish to show solidarity with the hardworking stall owners who make these markets so special and who rely on them for income. So - You’re in Germany! Pls don’t seek out any food that you’d eat in your home country. Push the boat out!! Try something new + regional. This market in Kassel is not designed with international tourists in mind - it’s for locals and regional tourists. The market is spread over 3 locations in the pedestrianised parts of the city (all within walking distance of one another and also with bollards in place for visitors’ safety) My favourite things to get eat/drink are: 1) Kartoffelpuffer (fried potato patties) with apple compote. 2) a nice fat German Bratwurst on bread with mustard 3) candied almonds and mulled wine boiled sweets 4) Speckkuchen, it’s a regional type of quiche / bacon pie/flan with a rye flour crust on the base and made with eggs, leeks and onions. It’s fatty and delicious. 5) all the mulled wine flavours. I’ve seen mulled wine with cherries, strawberry, raspberry; mulled white wine, mulled Bratapfel wine, hot caipirinha, my god the list goes on. It’s unreal!! I even saw a vegan non alcoholic mulled milk this year. 6) i’ve started seeing Ahle Wurst plates now too. This is a hard pork sausage and has protected geographical status in Germany. This is hands down the best sausage you can get in the entire world!! Viel Spaß! . . . . . #germany #germany🇩🇪 #germanchristmasmarket #Deutschland #weihnachtsmarkt #Glühwein #speckkuchen #kassel #hessen #weihnachtszeit #weihnachten #germanyhiddengems #kasselcity #kasselistschön #kasselfornia
This is the most bizarre museum in London no no actually in the UK. it contains conjoined piglets, Kylie minogie’s poo, Fiji mermaids, shrunken human heads and um, this. This is the Victor Wind museum of curiosities in hackney and I booked onto a guided tour with the museum’s emeritus director. I’ll tell you dates and prices at the end. . the tour started at 12, and we were given a welcome glass of absinthe - the venue is part bar, part museum - and then we descended into the wunderkabinett. a wunderkabinett is an encyclopaedic collection of objects without any categorical boundaries and is a predecessor of the modern museum. The collection is vast and contains the most unusual and bizarre items. But not everything in this museum is what it seems. Some of it is real - cyclops lamb skull, victorian hair art, naopleaons death mask some of it is not, like this Fiji mermaid is actually the head of a monkey sewn to the back half of a fish. and some items you just don’t know - like rolling stones’ used condoms, Pablo Escobar’s gold plated hippo skull and this?. Theres also a lot of erotica so its not suitable for kids I thought Victor Wynd was some eccentric dude from the 1700s but no, he’s a British artist and curator who’s alive, quite eccentric, and keeps adding to the collection, which already contains hundreds of thousands of oddities. So every time you visit, there may be a new item in the museum. You can visit the wunderkabinett without going on the tour, but I highly recommend the tour as the museums director take you through the history of selected items in the museum and tells you stories you wont be able to fins on the internet. The tour takes about an hour, it runs twice a month and costs £12 and you can book tickets on their website. Or you can book to visit the museum without the tool, also cost £12 to enter – unless you walk in on a Thursday and get tickets for £4. #solodate #hackney #londonlife #London #unusualplaces #viktorwynd #wunderkabinett #museumofcuriosities #darktourism #londonmuseum #alternativelondon #secretlondon
Travelling from England to Germany for Christmas. Meine Deutsche Mutter und ich are driving as we have a dog, so we take the Stenaline ferry from Harwich to Hoek van Holland. We set off on Saturday evening, arrive at Harwich International Port for check in. This ferry reminds me of the titanic and it’s… only slightly alarming. The cabin is quite basic, it sleeps 2, you get a towel, shampoo and soap and you can choose a cabin with a window (more expensive) or one without (which feels like you’re in a coffin). The ferry has a playstation, a cinema, duty free shopping, restaurants and a very reasonably priced bar. £5 glasses of sparkling wine! HEAVEN! Sadly no champagne/cremant on this ferry (lol) but it has Cava which is a much better (drier) alternative to Prosecco. We arrive… at 5.30am UK time… and from here, it’s a 5 hour drive to the town in Germany where my family is from. Once you land in the Netherlands you have to drive on the wrong side of the road, which confusingly is actually the right side but as long as you are hugging the curb and not in the middle of the lane you’re fine. And once you get to the German motorway, you can drive as fast as you like, I think my record is 240kmph but its stressful and wastes a lot of petrol A sad day for all - I tried the Torres pickle crisps and…. No. They were too sweet. They taste like the bread and butter pickles you can get in New York which have no sourness at all, just sugary sweet. Sad! We finally arrive, get a few cakes from a bakery (Germany has the best bakeries in Europe - the cakes are so indulgent, decadent, rich, creamy… I could go on. And the bread is so moist it’s actually wet when you cut it open. I’m going to be doing more German content over the next few weeks so follow for more! #travelwithme #christmas #weihnachten #ferry #stenaline #London #londonlife #germany
SUNDAY SOLO DATE SUPPER CLUB IN FINCHLEY !!!!! OTAKU is a supper club which takes place at Chef Max’s house in Finchley, It’s a 15 course menu which I have condensed into 3 minutes and I’ll tell you the price and next available dates at the end. We start with cocktails and then the first course is a chopped dashi broth with chives and matzoh balls. Max’s menu features predominantely Asian flavours because he believes they offer a more interesting flavour composition than European cuisine where flavour comes from mainly stock, salt and butter. The second course is a plump scallop is wrapped in a crispy batter and coated with a sweet thick katsu sauce, which - uh! Brilliant. Because Max didnt show us the menu beforehand, each course is a compete surprise to each of the 12 guests seated around his dining table. Third course is scallop cooked in beef fat with Sea buckthorn and with a fried bun. Max has worked at Michelin starred restaurants for the last 5 years and started this supoer club as he was disappointed with how many restaurants create beautiful looking dishes that taste of nothing and come with such a hefty price tag that you leave the restaurant feeling like you’ve been robbed, and wanted to create the opposite: a relaxed environment with delicious food where you feel like you’ve got your moneys worth. Course number 4: a buttery, sweet Langustine corn dog, complemented by a tangy langoustine head ketchup - genius. The menu is split into a fish and meat section - this is the final langoustine course was like a pad Thai boil with soft silky raw langoustines, pickled coriander and sweet candied peanut. It tasted as good as it sounds. Also every time I frown, it means the food is incomprehensibly delicious. Course 6 is another fish dish, this is hamachi saashimi with an acidic Tomato consume - seasoned with warming wild garlic vinegar and oil. max told us to drink the sauce, this isnt me exhibiting chocking table manners! Course 7 is Belly of hamatchi, white soy, nori and sesame served on a crumpet. Prior to every course max comes and gives some background info about how he created the dish and I have to say each course delivers a combination of ingredients I have never seen before. Course 8 - Smoked eel veloutee with mashed potato and chives - the eel tastes like bacon this had some unbelievable umami flavours Course 9 now we’re onto the meat section of the menu this was beef tartar with shredded mint and a sweet, spicy and sour dressing. Course 10 - Thai green curry braised short rib and fillet of beef, pickled jalapeños, braised aubergines, Thai green ketchup - it’s sweet, tangy, rich, fatty. beautiful. The 11th course was the most surprising of all - Dairy milk mousse with salt and vinegar syrup and potato twill. It’s like tangy salted chocolate which doesnt sound like it would work but my god this was unbelievable. 12th course was rhubarb that was grown in Yorkshire by tea light with custard, served iqwth a warm rhubarb gel and chunky rhubarb bits. Course 13 was a twist on a Banoffee pie. Course 14 was the first non watery and therefore delicious tirimasu I’ve ever had in my life And course 15, we finished with some petit fours - my favourite was was the white chocolate and miso fudge. Next dates are 7th and 8th of march 2025, it’s 20 seats per night and costs £130 a head. Link to tickets are in Max’s bio! @chefmaxposener on insta (INVITE) ##solodate##supperclub##finchley##London##londonfood##londonfoodie##londonfood##londonsupperclub##Foodie##FoodTok
I was in New York the other week and found across this restaurant by the Manhattan bridge called pearl street restaurant. It’s a raw bar and restaurant, I chose the 8 course tasting menu. (Invite!) The tasting Menu is q seafood heavy which I love and is the brainchild of owner John Coppola who has worked in restaurants for the past 28 years. The restaurant only has no tables, just 10 seats around the counter so you watch the chefs cook the food in front of you. I think this could create a really fun vibe if all 10 seats are filled, almost like youre at a friends dinner party. The first course was an oyster and a nice fat juicy prawn, which came with smoked trout roe, cocktail sauce and yuzu koshu mayo. 10/10 The second course was a Montauk fluke ceviche served with a citrus aguachile which is a liquid seasoned with chilli, lime juice and coriander. 9.5/10 Course 3 was seared diver scallops with raisins, toasted hazelnuts, cauliflower cream. 30000/10 Course 4 was tuna with kumquat, radish, scallion & chili relish 9/10 course number 5 was roasted pumpkin served in a dash sauce with roasted yeast oil. The oil gave the dish a gorgeously smoky, autumnal flavour. 10/10 Course 6 was wagyu with carrot puree and avocado mousse. 8/10 ~pickle interlude ~ Course 7 was Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with foil gras ganache. 20000000/10 loved this!! The final, 8th course was an apple cheesecake mousse. 700/10 The tasting menu costs 95$pp, what do you think? The 4.9 star rating on Google says it all for me 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 #tastingmenu #oysters #newyork #pearlstreetrestaurant #dumbo #rawbar #seafood #brooklyn #newyorkfood

Friday nights are now solo date night, aka taking myself out on a romantic date. On Friday I went to the Castle Cinema in Clapton (a the crowdfunded, community cinema) to see Babygirl I turned up two hours before the film started because I love this cinema. it is so beautiful and has a bar serving wine and cocktails, freshly popped popcorn, Perello olives, vegan pick and mix, and until the end of January, they have a pop up serving asian noodles and dumplings. I ordered a large glass of Beaujolais for £12, some pork dumplings and cold sesame noodles for £11.50 and tucked into my book which is my faithful companion on a solo date - atm I’m reading rivals by Jilly Cooper. This is a great place to come alone as the bar area is peppered with heavy armchairs and low lit lamps which creates a comfortable and intimate atmosphere. The cinema first opened in 1913 as a single screen cinema. It then was a bingo hall, a warehouse, a snooker hall and about ten years ago it returned to being a cinema and I hope it stays this way for a while. Anyway back to baby girl - this is the erotic thriller where Nicole Kidman plays an uptight CEO who gets seduced by an intern and flipping heck the film is definitely erotic but with moments of levity that break the sexual tension and man its so nice to switch your phone off and gasp and laugh along with the rest of the audience - Well worth the £18 I paid, and I’m willing to pay this as its a community crowdfunded cinema and they also offer tickets at off peak times for £10. #London #londonlife #cinema #solodate #clapton #hackney #cinemadate
KIPFERL - AUSTRIAN RESTAURANT REVIEW + Valentinstag inspo ?? I am German and I am reviewing all the German - and Austrian - restaurants in London and today I will visit the ONLY authentic Austrian restaurant and patisserie in the capital. (Invite) This is Kipferl and it’s tucked away in Camden passage in Islington. I am here with Meiner deutschen Mutter so lets kick off with der Klassiker - Kaspressknödelsuppe, which is a thick, cheesy dumpling swimming in a delicate beef broth which is often served in the alpine region of austria. we also had the Kartoffelrösti mit Lachs und Krauter dip - smoked salmon and potato rosti, warm crispy rosti and cool crisp herb dip cut through the fatty salmon. an Almdudler which is a herbal lemonade with greater brand recognition in austria than Coca Cola, mad! quick history lesson before hauptspeisen - “Kipferl” is the German word for a crescent shaped pastry, which dates back to 13th century austria and is considered to be the forefather of the humble croissant, and Kipferl feels like an Alpine homage to Austria, with posters everywhere a small deli stocked with Austrian food products and wood-panelled walls adorned with, skis, Austrian wines and deer skulls. Fur die Hauptspeise we had kasekrainer which is a lightly smokes sausage with cubes of Emmental cheese inside it’s quite salty and hearty so it pairs beautifully with the sweet and slightly bitter flavour of the tarragon mustard which is an Austrian classic. As well as the acidity of the sauerkraut. Sauerkraut if you havent had it, is fermented cabbage - kimchi Austrian style, if you will, just without the garlic and chili heat. Because it is well known that German and Austrian cuisine contains no spices, paprika is spicy enough for us. Dazu kam natuurlich RindGoulash mit Spetzle, spetzle are soft egg noodles—almost like tiny dumplings— which are fried and often accompany hearty dishes across Austria and southern Germany. There is a lot of crossover between food in southern germany and austria becuase of their centuries of shared history. We also had a schnitzel… now… people often accuse schnitzels of tasting quite bland, but I think it works well as a canvas for punchy sauces or salads, like cranberry sauce or a salty and vinegary potato salad. There is also a great selection of Austrian wines too. It must be clear to you by now how heavy and filling Austrian food is. Luckily my stomach’s pudding compartment was still empty so for Nachtisch we had Kaiserschmarm for the first time ever! This is a fluffy shredded pancake dusted with powdered sugar and served with fruit compote, and the Mozartkuchen, a chocolate and pistachio cake inspired by the traditional Mozartkugel. This restaurant is also a patisserie so you can buy cakes and cupcakes to takeaway and you know that valentines day is just around the corner… so… I’ll leave that there. #österreich #kipferl #österreichischeküche #goulash #londonlife #islington #deutscheküche #schnitzel #London #austrianfood #austriancuisine #ValentinesDay #romance
