But why does it feel like it’s been 84 years? This one goes out to everyone who is living in (or has lived in) their home while renovating — it’s not easy and we feel for you. What we’ve learned is it comes with its own uniquely specific kind of stress, excitement… and more stress. It’s been a difficult time for us, since no one fully understands what it’s like unless they’ve experienced it firsthand and we’re so appreciative to those of you who have offered kind words and support. Your messages of encouragement have meant the world to us. On a more positive note!! We’re finally making headway in the living room after receiving the French doors we ordered last year. The existing doors were rotting, sagging, and close to complete failure since the day we bought our house, so the arrival of the new ones is extremely exciting for us! With the door installation almost completed, we can *finally* move into designing the space. Which, to be honest, this room has been existing as a hodgepodge of random pieces of furniture we’re not necessarily tied to, with unfinished and unpainted walls. It hasn’t reflected our style but it certainly has reflected our pain, anguish, and mess 😅😅 insert more drama here. We’re calling this room “Sunset” — can you guess what color scheme we’re going for? Since moving to LA, driving out to the desert for a few nights is something we return to time and time again as a way to reconnect, recenter, and recharge ourselves. I remember the last time we were in Yucca, we had just lost out on what we believed was our “dream home.” We were crushed. We had spent the first half of the year scaling back, penny pinching, and molding ourselves into the most attractive homebuyers we could. So much pressure. We kept asking ourselves, “Are we in over our heads, trying to buy our first house?” But it was on that trip to Yucca, we accepted and acknowledged the things that are within and outside of our control. Flash forward to a year and half later, this second trip to Yucca couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. We’re still asking ourselves “are we in over our heads?” this time while attempting to renovate a 100-year old house with no experience (and really no budget) whatsoever. But we’re not afraid to answer “yes, we probably are” 😅😅, maybe it’s the desert, or maybe it’s about finding some quiet, but somehow we woke up this morning feeling so clear.
