Gold in its natural form is yellow, so it needs to be alloyed with other metals to achieve its white appearance. We use palladium white gold, which is hypoallergenic and results in a greyish colour with very little trace of yellow. A lot of other jewellers, however, will use nickel and other cheap alloys in their white gold. This can lead to bad skin reactions and cause the metal to still appear yellow in colour. Regardless of the alloys, this isn't enough to give white gold it's bright white appearance, and therefore it requires something called rhodium plating. I'll explain this process in better detail in another video, but basically, as the name suggests, rhodium plating is just plating the metal. This means it wears off over time and requires long-term maintenance to keep its bright white appearance. It's personal preference how often you re-plate your white gold, but usually rhodium plating will last one to two years, and it can be quite costly to have it redone. This is one of the main reasons why we only work with palladium based white gold because as that rhodium starts to wear off underneath, you'll just have that really dark grey colour and it'll be a lot less obvious, compared to a white gold with cheap alloys, you'll get that really yellow hue coming through. With all this in mind, this is why we recommend choosing Platinum for your engagement ring. Platinum is a naturally white metal, so you won't have to worry about the long-term maintenance of having it replated every couple years. Just the occasional polish, which is personal preference. Platinum is also naturally hypoallergenic so it's really great for people with sensitive skin and can actually last through a higher level of wear and tear compared to white gold. The price difference between the two is very minimal and you're getting a much better, more pure metal. #engagementring #diamondring #platinum #whitegold #mistakestoavoid

Everything you need to know about buying an OVAL DIAMOND💎💍 1. Colour has a strong element of personal preference, but we always recommend the DEF range as it is colourless (less colour = higher fire & brilliance). For those who are looking for some warmth in their stone, G can also be a great option! 2. Clarity allows for some flexibility when it comes to Ovals, however, if you’re looking for an eye-clean stone we recommend VS1 and above. 3. Carat is all about personal preference, but our one recommendation would be to check the stones dimensions as this can vary between two stones that are the same carat weight. 4. Cut is arguably the most important 4C and not all ovals come with a cut grade on the certificate. It’s important to cross check your stones proportions with the ideal ranges, to ensure it is an ideal/excellent cut. (I can do a whole video on this). 5. Stone Ratio will determine if your oval is long and slim or short and wide, again this very much personal preference. 6. And lastly, Bowties. Bowties refer to dark areas visible in some oval diamonds caused by light blockage, impacting their brilliance. Let me know if you have any further questions and which stone shape should I cover next!!🤍✨ #engagementring #ovalengagementring #ovaldiamond #ovalcut #jeweller
