It’s important to share all sides of fostering, especially when trying to find the best future home for my dogs! It’s easy to show all the cute and viral moments on the Internet and also equally nerve-racking to share the struggles because of some of the feedback from people who are not living it 🤣 Stars just beginning to heal and sometimes fostering is more than just providing a loving landing pad. In addition to the love they bring, dogs can also come with trauma, undersocialized fears, and behaviors that need shaping. Update from Stars vet appt yesterday - a bit of a longer video. Feeling all the feels. Fostering is hard sometimes but it’s important to share all of the moments with you all. 🤍 This is my first time navigating fostering a dog that’s fearful of people and it’s bringing so much anxiety I’ve never felt before. I know a lot but im not a dog trainer and navigating how to introduce and expose her to new people safely is feeling heavy. Shes SO special and so bonded and sweet to Lilly and I. Star is learning to dog a little more each day. She loves Wally but is quite undersocialized so is learning appropriate play initiation. They aren’t yet integrated in the house, so star may do best as an only pet, although with time can learn to have doggy friends. Now? She’s a snuggly, hilarious, reality-TV-loving couch queen who’s learning to trust the world again 💛 Found at 26 lbs, she now weighs over 40 and can stand to gain a bit more! At home, she’s house-trained, crate-trained, and very into squeaky toys. Out in the world, she’s still catching up — like a puppy in an adult body. She’s working with trainers on building confidence, trusting new people, and coexisting around dogs. We’re looking for someone to continue: 🐾 training & confidence through play and exploration 🐾 Low-pressure people intros with treats, play & space 🐾 Gentle exposure to new environments — grow her world, don’t shrink it 👑 Star’s ideal home: • Adult-only, pet-free • Committed to training & letting her grow • A place with lots of comfy dog beds and couches (her fave) She’s currently undergoing heartworm treatment, so she’ll join our foster-to-adopt program (we cover all medical costs). what we’ve been up to in the last week 🥹 Can’t lie I was defeated after our last vet visit, and some of the notes the vet wrote on her records were incredibly disheartening and quick snap judgements. With the help and guidance of my amazing friend and trainer Natasha @Connected & Unleashed we decided to switch vets, muzzle train and implement a new protocol for vet visits. It was soooo much smoother. We also had photos taken this week by @FIVE FREEDOMS PHOTOGRAPHY which I can’t wait to get back! You know when fosters say that sometimes fostering is hard?
