What I am training for and how I am training 🥾🏔️🏋🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️➡️ The Peaks of the Balkans Trail is a 192 km (120 miles) long hiking route that crosses Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro. It typically takes 8-10 days to complete, with elevations reaching up to 2,500 meters (8,200 feet). The trail connects several remote villages, offering a mix of mountainous terrain, dense forests, and alpine meadows. The Tour du Mont Blanc is a 170 km (105 miles) hiking route that passes through France, Italy, and Switzerland. It usually takes 10-12 days to complete, with an elevation gain of over 10,000 meters (32,800 feet). The trail circles Mont Blanc, offering stunning views of glaciers, valleys, and towering peaks while passing through picturesque alpine villages. I have to do the trek in 9 days, which will make an already demanding trek more challenging. Mount Triglav is the highest peak in Slovenia, standing at 2,864 meters (9,396 feet). The hike to the summit is approximately 20 km (12 miles) round trip, typically taking 2-3 days to complete. The trail offers challenging terrain, including rocky paths and via ferrata sections, with stunning views of the Julian Alps and surrounding valleys. I have never done a via ferrata, so I am both excited and nervous for this climb. Since I live in the Netherlands, and we have no elevation, winter is always challenging for a hiking lover like myself. I have taken running more seriously this year, and I am impressed at how fast I have advanced. I have signed up for a Half Marathon (13 miles/21km) in May, and I am so excited to experience the energy of the event and of course to get a medal at the end (Okay honestly mainly doing it for the medal). My one and only time I ran 13 miles was last week on a test run and my time was 2 hrs and 15 min.
